Happy October! So excited for a new month & absolutely love this time of year. I have a relatively light schedule, which I welcome. I am settling into a new job, new routine, & just need some time to assimilate the changes, relax & just be.
Even though I’ll be taking it easy, there are some cool happenings this month, both in my world & beyond:
Worldwide:
- World Vegetarian Day - October 1st marks the kick of of Vegetarian Awareness Month, where non-meat eaters & those interested in giving up meat pledge to give vegetarianism a try & adopt a meat free diet for the month. WVD’s mission is “to promote the joy, compassion & life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism,” as it brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health & humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. Celebrate the day by showing your non-veg friends & family how awesome it is to be meat free, by preparing an amazing veg feast. Once you’ve tantalized their palates with scrumptious veggie fare, encourage them to sign the pledge!
- Vegan Month of Food - What a better way to celebrate WVD than a whole month of vegan food! October 1st also kicks off the annual “VeganMoFo!” Hope your tummies can keep up with your eyes! Vegan bloggers are invited to write as much as they can all month about vegan food & that means vegan recipes galore. I opted out this year, but check out the VeganMoFo Blogroll to see a list of awesome participants.
Local/San Diego:
- Final SD Veg Week Celebration - San Diego Veg Pledgers are invited to celebrate their week of humane & healthy eating at the Veg Week final party at Queen Bee’s Cutlural Center on October 2nd. Enjoy delicious vegan food, drink, & music. Paul Shapiro, senior director of the HSUS Factory Farming Campaign will be at the celebration, leading a talk on the positive impact vegetarian eating has on farmed animals. Learn more & RSVP here.
- Pop-up Vegetarian Cooking Class - Chef Jenn & Sea Rocket Bistro join forces again on October 16th, this time with a hands-on vegetarian class (I’ve attended the last two vegan classes & they are a blast!). Learn how to prepare panzanella salad, roasted winter squash & carrot soup, whole wheat lasagna rolls, & Spanish style custard. Click here for more info.
- Brewmaster’s Veg Dinner at Local Habit - Local Habit Chef Nick Brune & Black Market Brewing Head Brewer Ryan Brooks collaborate on October 18th to bring five delicious courses of farm fresh vegetarian/vegan food paired with five craft beers. Get your tickets here while you can!
Last, but definitely not least, I wish the Happiest of Birthdays to my favorite little bun-bun, Anna! Expect a sweet Vegenista birthday surprise coming your way!
Happy October everyone!
