Magical Miso
I wrapped up my little 2 day mini-cleanse with a nourishing bowl of this… Miso Soup from 101 Cookbooks (Photo via HS). My mini cleanse started out fantastically. I felt light, clear, & energized. I went to yoga, dry brushed, took an epsom salt bath, drank lots of tea & detox cocktail, & ate noting but Detoxifying Salad & steamed veggies. I woke up this morning with...

Weekend Detox
I need a refresh & recharge before heading back to work on Monday. This weekend I am going to lay low, unplug, relax, reflect, meditate, practice yoga & eat cleanly.  I am using the “Vegetarian Times Weekend Detox” program as a guide, & I’m also going to incorporate an “detox cocktail,” by fitness guru Jillian Michaels, into my weekend regime. Dandelion...

Leftovers....
…it’s what the day after Thanksgiving is all about! This year we didn’t have many, thank goodness, as I am going into major weekend detox mode tomorrow! I’m thinking lots of hot yoga & green juice! That means I have today to stuff myself silly one last time! So, while everyone else was gorging on turkey & cranberry sandwiches, Mom & I made this… ...

Quinoa Breakfast Bowl
Uuuuggghhh….Who else woke up a bit groggy & headachy this morning? I certainly did. Too much indulgence & Vegan Vine Wine. It was worth it at the time, but I needed a nourishing breakfast to get my lazy morning started on the right foot!  I took inspiration from this 101 Cookbooks recipe, using left over Thanksgiving toasted pecans & dried tart cherries… And made this...

Vegan Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, & Sage Risotto
All that Thanksgiving recipe research I did yesterday made me hungry, & I was ready to make a scrumptious meal. It was cold & rainy evening, so the obvious choice would’ve been a hearty stew. But I had something else in mind… I absolutely love risotto for so many reasons! First, it is versatile. You can tailor risotto to the season - asparagus & pea in the spring, tomato...

Thanksgiving Cocktail Hour
I’ve been saving my last bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, graciously gifted to me from my friends at The Vegan Vine, for Thanksgiving Dinner. But, what about raising your glass for a thankful toast with a festive specialty cocktail? I’ve found it… The Poinsettia from The Kitch’n The Poinsettia is a sparkling wine-based cocktail with the added zip of cranberry &...

Thanksgiving Inspiration Recipe Round-up
Time flies…when one is swamped! Between work, weddings, & professional conferences, etc., I’ve had little time to even think about Thanksgiving, let alone get planning! My Mom & I had the ambitious idea of testing recipes, but that didn’t happen, & now we are days away from the holiday. Ack, we need to “get crackin!” So we are meeting tonight for Twilight...

Adopt-A-Turkey Project
It’s that time of year…With so many delicious alternatives to serve for your holiday feast (Gardein Stuffed Turk’y, Fieldroast, Tofurky Vegetarian Roast), it’s easier than ever to “pardon the turkey” & honor kindness & compassion this Thanksgiving. Why leave it to the President?  Why not take it a step further & sponsor your own feathered friend...

Vegan Italian "Sausage" & Cabbage Stew
Nothing soothes the soul on a cold rainy night more than a steamy bowl of soup. I love the rain, especially in the evening when I am home curled up under a blanket with my snuggle Pug & a good book. A rainstorm always inspires me to put a soup or stew on the stove & a hearty loaf of multigrain bread in the oven, & that is how this recipe was born last Saturday night. When I picked...

Inspired Arugula & Persimmon Salad
I’ve been dreaming for days about the “Persimmon Salad” I had at my cousin’s wedding, so I decided to make my own version… Luckily, persimmons aren’t too hard to find this time of year, as I’ve seen them in just about every market from Vons to Trader Joe’s. For my salad I picked up a couple of the “fuyu” variety. The fuyu persimmon is...

CDC "Architect" Double Buckle Boot
Happiness arrived today in a pretty pink boot box… I’ve been lusting after these boots from Hearts of Darkness by Cri de Coeur for ever, seriously. For a while there I couldn’t justify treating myself, until finally, I could! Reason a.) I had some extra $$, b.) I just wore out my favorite pair of black boots & needed new ones to get me through boot season, c.) it’s...

Spicy Tempeh Chili & Vegan Cornbread
It’s really starting to feel like fall around here. Cold nights, rainy days, & the time change. I woke up feeling very out of sorts. That’s been the norm around here lately. Lots has been in flux &, as I welcome new opportunities, it often takes a minute for me to adjust to the changes, & let go of the past & what’s familiar. All of this points to me craving...
